Re: “Courtney Love does the math”, by Courtney Love. (http://archive.salon.com/tech/feature/2000/06/14/love/) Courtney Love presents the fact that only 30 of every 32,000 albums released annually go platinum as evidence that we have become a boring society. This amounts to 0.09375% and while this may seem to support her conclusion that “the status quo gives us boring”, I would suggest that this is in fact a symptom of a far greater problem. In my opinion, the real issue lies not with the record companies but with society itself. The fact that only a small percentage of albums are successful is evidence that… Read More…

Applications Of Math (Symbolic Language and Logical Structures)

(Images in this article may be clicked on for an expanded view.) For our assignment we were asked to review the following articles: http://www.mathmotivation.com/science/carvalue.html http://www.mathmotivation.com/deductive/advertising.html http://www.mathmotivation.com/money/internet-advertising.html While I found the articles a tad elementary, they work well to illustrate the basic principle that math surrounds us and is represented in nearly every facet of everyday life. The idea that math is useless is completely without merit and demonstrates a lack of fundamental understanding for the scientific principles that govern our universe. Each day we use math in the most rudimentary and routine aspects of our life. Everything from the amount… Read More…

Experimental Code? Say’s Who? Powered By HTML5 & CSS3!

I’ve finally taken the plunge and there’s even a tweet to mark the occasion. StevenMilanese.com has gone <!DOCTYPE HTML>. This semester my business partner Jared Lawandales began his “Fundementals of Web Design” course at Full Sail University. Jared is still somewhat new to coding and was rather surprised by the fact that the course was centered around HTML5 as opposed to more traditional XHTML. Despite being somewhat new to coding it was his understanding and rightly so, that HTML5 was considered “experimental code” and wasn’t yet 100% cross browser compatible. At his first opportunity, he approached me in the office… Read More…

Math Anxiety & Study Skills – Discussion Board

I’m a bit of an oddball in the sense that I’ve always excelled at math. I’m not sure if I enjoy math as much as I do as a result of my success with it, or if I’ve excelled at math as a result of enjoying it. Either way, before I get to far ahead of myself, I should clarify that despite being fairly skilled at math, some problems take longer than others to solve. Although at times I can be lightning quick by applying quirky tricks to an equation, other times I need to break it down into smaller,… Read More…

MeetUp.com – Melbourne Florida WordPress Users Group

Posted on Oct 30 in: Wordpress - No Comments »

I was trolling along Facebook the other night when I saw a post from WordPress.org announcing that it was “Global Meetup Night” for WordPress user groups. I clicked through the link, as I do with most WordPress announcements and was introduced to meetup.com. I have to admit I was immediately impressed by the feel and functionality of the website. In fact, my only disappointment was the fact that there was no WordPress Users Group near me. So, naturally being the entrepreneur that I am, I immediately saw an opportunity. A New Community Emerges Next thing I knew I was on… Read More…
