DIGITAL PAINTING: Pop Art (Anime Subject)

Artist Statement:
I had a great deal of fun working on this project. A quick look inside the .psd will reveal the dozens of color and filter combinations that I considered while trying to decide on a final concept. The more I worked with it, the more things just sort of fell into place. I’ve been on a real anime kick lately with my sketches and for this reason; I decided to attempt an anime subject in a pop art style and setting. I went for an oil paint on canvas effect and chose a vibrant pallet typical of pop art for my primary colors. The background much like the primary colors, were greatly influenced by the paintings I reviewed during my research for this project. I was drawn to the seventies, retro influence in several of the paintings and this led to the selection of more muted background tones, in an effort to give the brighter colors even more pop.
